WELLNESS EXAMS FOR PETS IN HOUSTON, TX

Our Houston, TX, veterinarians recommend a visit to our clinic annually for our general wellness services to keep your pets happy and healthy from nose to tail.

Our pet wellness plans are designed to prevent disease and prolong the lives of your pets. For puppies and kittens, we recommend an initial exam and beginning their first vaccination series between six and eight weeks of age. While receiving vaccinations is important, there are a number of other steps to help ensure your new family member is off to a happy and healthy start. Our comprehensive wellness care includes full physical examinations, intestinal parasite screenings, and precautionary deworming, in addition to personalized vaccination plans and at-home preventative recommendations.

Sunset Animal Hospital recommends a wellness exam and preventive care visit every six months to help keep your pet healthy and up to date on their ongoing needs.

WELLNESS EXAMS FOR PETS IN HOUSTON, TX

Dogs and cats age more rapidly than humans, which means health issues can develop in a short amount of time. Scheduling wellness visits every six months allows our veterinarians at Sunset Animal Hospital to monitor for any changes and recommend treatments that help protect against infections, parasites, and other potential health concerns.

Each wellness exam includes a thorough physical evaluation, bloodwork, heartworm testing, intestinal parasite screening, and any necessary vaccinations. We also take time to discuss your pet’s diet, lifestyle, and any questions you might have. Our goal during every visit is to support your pet’s long-term health and comfort.

At Sunset Animal Hospital, our veterinarians are able to detect any changes in your pet’s health with frequent exams and diagnostics. General wellness care for your pet will always include the following:

A NOSE-TO-TAIL INSPECTION

The physical exam is a very important aspect of your pet’s overall health. A full physical exam will always include an eye, ear, and heart exam with medical equipment, such as an otoscope, ophthalmoscope, and stethoscope. Other important body systems are evaluated, including the teeth, skin, coat, vital signs, body condition, and joints.

Your veterinarian will use their hands to palpate your pet’s abdomen, hips, and other joints. Physical exams allow your veterinarian to identify potential health concerns that your pet is unable to communicate to us.

Internal medicine is the specialized management, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases within the internal organs. Common diseases include:

  • Pancreatitis
  • Kidney/Urinary Disease
  • Internal Infections
  • Cancer
  • Endocrine System diseases (Diabetes, Adrenal, Thyroid, etc.)
  • Heart Disease
  • Liver disease
  • Gallbladder diseases

Our medical team is equipped, trained, and experienced to provide the highest level of care in times of illness. Our Houston, TX, animal hospital is open 24/7, with a comprehensive in-house laboratory and diagnostic equipment to a state-of-the-art ICU.

Early detection of diseases through diagnostics such as bloodwork and urinalysis allows us to start treatment as early as possible. Diagnostic testing alerts our team to potentially threatening trends of the internal organs and identifies internal disease.

At Sunset Animal Hospital, we take pride in working as a team with pet owners to support you in providing the best possible care. An important aspect of wellness care for us is educating pet parents. Together, we can ensure that your pets receive all the care and treatment they need to live long and healthy lives.

We encourage you to ask us any questions and call us at any time with concerns.

We offer and encourage annual full blood panels for all our patients. When done routinely, these results help our doctors detect trends and potential diseases before they become a serious issue. Pets do not often exhibit symptoms of many serious diseases until the disease has already progressed to a serious state.

There are many diseases that, if caught early enough, can be managed through simple changes, such as dietary modifications. Early detection of diseases allows us to treat your pet sooner and ultimately prolong your pet’s life.
